Teacher fired for beating student in class

HOUSTON (AP) - A charter school in Houston has fired a science teacher because of a cell phone video that showed her beating a 13-year-old student.

The video was shot by another student. Sheri Lynn Davis was fired from her job last night. The principal says he looked at the video and determined that there's "no excuse for a teacher to behave this way with a child."

A Houston TV station (KRIV) reported that the video was shot in late April.

The mother of the student who was beaten says he received a black eye and other bruises. A sheriff's deputy says the Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
