Attention non-profits; you only have 4 days left

SPOKANE, Wash. - Four days from now non-profits in our area are at risk of automatically losing their tax exemption status if they don't fill out paperwork.

The Pension Protection Act of 2006 mandates that all non-profit organizations, other than churches and church related organizations, must file an information form with the IRS.

This requirement has been in effect since the beginning of 2007, which made 2009 the third consecutive year under the new law.

Non-profits need to go to the IRS's website and fill out either a 990-n, 990 ez, 990 or 990-pf forms. Any organization that fails to file for three consecutive years automatically loses its federal tax-exempt status.

Were told small volunteer groups could have to come up with up to $750-dollars if there status lapses.
