House collapse in east Spokane; man rushed to hospital

SPOKANE, Wash. -- One man is in the hospital after a house fell on him Thursday afternoon. Authorities at the Spokane Fire Department says the man was trapped between the home and the foundation when a private company was moving the home a few blocks away.

It happened in the 3600 Block of East 2nd Avenue.  2nd Avenue was closed between Rebecca and Freya for about an hour as rescue teams pulled the man from under the home.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer says the weight of the house shifted during the move and hit the man, knocking him under the home and trapping him for several minutes.

Schaeffer says the injuries do not appear life threatening.

A neighbor who identified himself as "Ted" said he heard the home fall just before 2 o'clock. He ran to the home and heard the man trapped underneath the building.

Ted asked the man if he was, "okay," and the man responded by saying he didn't know.
