Four Students Arrested After Bringing a Gun to N. Idaho School

Priest Lake, ID—Four Timberlake High School freshmen were arrested Wednesday for possessing a handgun on school property.

The three boys and one girl could also be expelled from the school district for up to a year.

"We are unsure why the kids brought the gun to school," said Brad Murray, assistant superintendent of Lakeland School District. "We are unaware of any threats that were possibly made"

It is believed the four students brought the gun to school on Tuesday. Other students at Timberlake High School notified school administrators of the gun, and after investigating the freshmen were arrested and suspended on Wednesday. Administrators believe one of the students ditched the gun because it cannot be found, however, the suspected students did confess to having it at school.

"It's a big issue when anybody brings a weapon onto school grounds, you can't have that, it's a very poor choice, we're very proud of the kids that notified school administration to let them know that something was going on," said Murray.

Two of the boys remain in custody. The other two were released back to their parents. All four now await a hearing by the school board at their next meeting on June 1414th. The board will determine at that time a proper punishment for each student, which could include being expelled for up to a year.

"I would hope they all understand the gravity of their choices, but I don't know what those kids think at this point," said Murray.
