SPOKANE, Wash. - A lot of you will be heading to the gasoline pumps before heading to your destinations this Memorial Day weekend. The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has dropped over nine cents over the past two weeks. That's according to the Lundberg survey of fuel prices. The average price for a gallon of regular gas nationwide is now $2.83 a gallon.

Locally gas prices are on the decline as well. Right now the average price for a gallon of gas in Spokane is $3.05. That's down three cents from two weeks ago when we were paying $3.08.

The spokesman for AAA Idaho says the reason a gallon of gas in the state has been at least 20 cents higher than the national average for most of the spring is because refineries in Utah aren't producing enough to meet demand in the two states.

Dave Carlson says lawmakers in Utah should ask refineries why more isn't being produced. AAA reports that the national average for a gallon of regular gas Utah $3.055.

Carlson tells the Idaho Statesman that Idaho is an isolated market and that's part of the reason for the higher prices. He predicts gas prices will fall in the next 30 days.

KHQ WEATHER AUTHORITY:

Hi Everyone, Leslie Here!

AND...the rain continues! Look for scattered showers throughout tonight and into tomorrow. The bulk of the showers will be in the mountains Saturday before tapering off on Sunday. Sunday is looking to be the best day of the 3-day weekend with partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures into the mid 60's. By Monday another system rolls in, bringing more wide spread showers....the good news, temps should remain in the 60's.

Enjoy your Memorial Weekend!
