Johnson and Johnson Medication Recall: What You Need to Know

SPOKANE, Wash. - Recalls seem to happen more and more often these days. From produce to meat products and now over the counter medication.

Last month Johnson and Johnson recalled more than 136 million bottles of children's OTC pain medication and now they are under fire for not taking that quick action to recall adult Motrin.

Here in Spokane, store shelves are empty.

Children's Benadryl, Motrin, Tylenol and Zyrtec as well as the adult Motrin brand medication have been taken off the shelves.

Johnson and Johnson says the products were recalled last month due to additional active ingredients and possible metallic particles.

But now another breakthrough, Johnson and Johnson is now admitting that it knew of some potential problems with its adult Motrin tablets as early as 2008. Rather than initiate a recall, it sent contractors to stores to buy the products and told them not to mention the recall.

We talked with managers at Yokes Fresh Market who say they get about 1-2 recall notices throughout their entire store every month, but when it comes to medication, their customers are hyper vigilant and concerned about the safety of their children and the ill who already have weak immune systems.

The Federal Drug Administration is investigating reports of serious side effects, however they believe the risk of harm is remote.

FDA officials ask that if you have any of these products to throw them out or return them, even though they believe the risk of harm is remote.
