Red Cross Assisting Two After Fire Destroys North Spokane Home

SPOKANE, Wash.- The American Red Cross is assisting a man and a woman who lost their house Wednesday night in north Spokane to a structure fire. Spokane County Fire crews are investigating what caused the fire in the 400 block of east Indiana.

According to crews, when they arrived at the fire, the top floor was fully engulfed and there was a lot of smoke. Crews had to ventilate the roof of the home using chainsaws to cut through the shingles and get to the fire, which had spread to the attic.

At last check there were no injuries. Crews were at the scene of the fire mopping up hot spots until at least 1:30 Thursday morning.

According to the Red Cross, they will help the two people displaced in this fire with temporary housing, food, and clothing as needed. Megan Snow, Director of Communications and Marketing for Red Cross, says this is the third incident Red Cross has responded to in the last 36 hours. Snow says that's much than the average response, one incident every 48 hours.

KHQ.COM - An average house cat weighs between 7-10 pounds but one Spokane woman has a cat whose size is almost unheard of. Out of the corner of your eye, Ollie might be mistaken for a dog... he's that big! Not your normal house cat, Ollie is a Savannah cat, a hybrid breed that's a cross between a serval cat and a domestic cat. So while it's not surprising that he's bigger than a domestic cat, his size is still shocking.
