Fire Crews Extinguish North Spokane Garage Fire In Minutes

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Fire Crews say a detached garage fire on West Queen and North Nettleton is a total loss after a fire. Crews were called to the area by the homeowner, who told them his garage was on fire. The first call came about 5:20 Wednesday morning.

According to a battalion chief at the scene, the garage was fully engulfed in flames, and there was what appeared to be a power line across the Nettleton Ave. The road was blocked off as crews worked to put out the fire. The battalion chief says the cable was attached to the garage from a power pole across the street, so when the garage collapsed, the cable fell across the roadway. Avista Utility crews did respond to the area to help clear that cable so that the road could be reopened.

Also lost in the fire, the homeowner's car. The car was parked just outside the garage and was burned to a shell by the time firefighters were able to get the fire extinguished, which took only a few minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation right now, although firefighters say it does not appear to be suspicious.
