Plane Crash Kills One Near Keller

FERRY COUNTY, Wash. - Authorities have identified 65 year-old Elwyn Fletcher as the person killed in a plane crash near Keller, Washington Tuesday morning. The second passenger, 22 year-old Justin Marchand remains in serious condition.

Both men were pinned inside the cockpit of a fixed-wing single engine Cessna 150 after it crashed along highway 21. Emergency crews had to battle many obstacles to get to the men, including live power lines and fuel leaking from the plane.

Witnesses who first arrived on scene tell KHQ that both Fletcher and Marchand were conscious when they arrived, however their condition worsened as the minutes passed. Fletcher eventually died on scene, and Marchand was taken by helicopter to a Spokane hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

FERRY COUNTY, Wash. - One person is dead and another seriously injured after a plane crashed along Highway 21 near Keller according to the Colville Indian Tribal Police Chief.  Both victims were conscious when emergency crews arrived but the pilot died shortly after. The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. 

According to authorities, the small two-person plane took off on a private runway and crashed just after take off.  The plane was found tangled in power lines alone the side of Highway 21.

Tribal police did not release the names of the victims but did say the two victims are both men and they believe both of them are 65 years old.  The victims are not related.  One of the men is from the Ferry County area and the other is not according to police.

The FAA is currently investigating the accident.
