Bahamas Steps Up The Hunt For 'Barefoot Bandit'

MARSH HARBOUR, Bahamas (AP) - Police in the Bahamas say they're intensifying their search for the fugitive Washington state teen known as the "Barefoot Bandit."

Assistant Police Commissioner Glenn Miller says his force will be "relentless" until Colton Harris-Moore is caught.

Harris-Moore, who has no formal flight training, allegedly stole a single-engine plane from an Indiana airport and crash landed it near a tourist island in the Bahamas.

Police and soldiers are patrolling Great Abaco Island's coastlines and airports, while investigators follow a trail of seven break-ins.

Since the 19-year-old's escape from a Seattle-area halfway house, he is accused of committing burglaries across Washington, as well as in British Columbia and Idaho.

He earned the "Barefoot Bandit" nickname because he allegedly went shoeless for some of his crimes.
