Gregoire, Murray Offer Support For Boeing Tanker

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Gov. Chris Gregoire says that thousands of American jobs depend on Boeing's bid for the U.S. Air Force airborne tanker contract.

Gregoire, along with the governors from Kansas, Connecticut and Utah, held a conference call Friday in support of the bid, saying that "we simply cannot let this opportunity slip away."

Bids were due Friday for the $35 billion contract to build 179 of the planes. Boeing rival European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. submitted its bid Thursday. Boeing made its offer Friday
morning.

Also Friday, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and several members of the state's Congressional delegation rallied with aerospace workers in Everett in support of the bid.

Boeing wants to use a version of its 767 passenger jet, which is built in Everett.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane woman who was run over by a cyclist last month on the Centennial Trail has filed a lawsuit against the man she says didn’t even try to avoid smashing into her. On Sept. 22, 67-year-old Virginia Pearsall was walking near Kendall Yards with her sister when she heard someone behind her yell, “Hot pizza!” "I felt like I got hit by a truck," said Pearsall. "The impact was so great, it was unbelievable."

    TACOMA, Wash. - Washington State Patrol believes faulty brakes and speed contributed to a semi truck crash on the SR 16 interchange with northbound I-5 in Tacoma Tuesday evening.  Troopers say the truck was headed eastbound on SR 16 when it rolled on the rap to northbound I-5.  Trooper Brooke Bova tweeted photos form the scene, including one which showed the truck's brake lines tied together with a plastic grocery bag.  The
