95-Year-Old Kelso Farmer Still Making Hay
LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) - The family of Kelso farmer Doug Tomlinson jokes he spends so much time on his tractor they're going to bury him with it.
The 95-year-old made the most of Tuesday's sunshine making about 500 hay bales. On Sunday he baled 700.
Tomlinson told The Daily News of Longview he's been baling hay since the 1940s and in earlier years used a team of horses.
The farming has been part of a lifetime of work that included building fences and lookout towers at the Hanford nuclear reservation and working in shipyards during World War II.
His family says he's never idle and grows a big garden every year and makes birdhouses and whirligigs in his shop in his spare time.
