BP's Hayward is Out; Work on Well Resuming

NEW ORLEANS, La. - A change in leadership may be in the offing at BP. A senior U.S. government official says the company's gaffe-prone chief executive, Tony Hayward, is being replaced and could be gone as early as tomorrow.

Hayward has been under fire for his handling of the Gulf oil spill. He was also criticized for saying he wanted his "life back," and for going to a yacht race in England while oil washed up on Gulf shores. One possible successor is BP Managing Director Bob Dudley, who is currently overseeing the company's spill response.

Meanwhile, work on permanently plugging the blown-out well is resuming after a pause to ride out the remnants of Tropical Storm Bonnie.

Retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, who's overseeing the government's response, says officials will try to determine what effect Bonnie had on the area. He says oil may have migrated north to Mississippi Sound, and officials are checking to see if boom that was protecting sensitive marshlands was pushed ashore.

NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
