An Eye-In-The-Sky at Independence Point

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. - Coeur d'Alene Police are considering putting a camera at Independence Point to produce a live-stream of the area. The lake city's newest crime prevention tool could be in place as early as this fall.

It would have a pan-tilt feature to be monitored by the patrol division. The live video could be monitored either by a computer at the police department or in patrol cars. Patrol officers could feasibly look at a live scene of the area while responding to a call.

"A camera system will help us monitor the complaints we receive about loud parties, crimes, and loitering that occurs in the late evening hours," said Sgt. Christie Wood, Coeur d'Alene Police. "It will also be used as a tool in helping us locate missing children during large events"

The cost for a single camera is in the range of $2000 to $2500, and there will be some additional cost for installation. The camera would be paid for with existing grant monies.
