52-Year-Old Man Dies In Mount Rainier Fall
SEATTLE (AP) - Park rangers have retrieved the body of a Seattle man who died after he fell into a crevasse on Mount Rainier.
Lee Adams was part of a four-man crew descending the mountain Tuesday, when the last person on the rope tripped and fell. The men were swept off their feet, couldn't stop their fall and plummeted into the crevasse, where Adams died on impact.
Another climber was hurt, but the other two escaped injury. The injured climber was airlifted from the mountain. Adams body was retrieved Wednesday.
A member of the Washington Alpine Club, where Adams was a volunteer instructor, says he's shocked the 52-year-old climber was killed. Fred Slater says Adams "would outclimb and out-hike anybody." He says Adams' death shows accidents can happen to anybody.
