Aunt Accused Of Stabbing Young Nieces

KATONAH, N.Y. - Authorities are accusing a woman of stabbing her nieces while baby-sitting them at their home across the street from Martha Stewart's residence in an upscale New York community.

Police said the girls were found with multiple stab wounds on the kitchen floor of their Katonah home Saturday.

The New York Post reported that the girls, Maeve and Annabel Kelly, ages 7 and 9, are recovering at Westchester Medical Center and are expected to survive.  They are in serious condition, according to The Associated Press.

Their aunt, Lisa Turkki of East Syracuse, was arraigned on two counts of assault and was being held at a county jail. The name of her attorney was not on record early Monday.

The girls' parents, Joe and Eva Kelly, were at a concert in nearby Caramoor at the time of the incident, according to the Post.  The paper reported that dispatchers received a 911 call from the home at 9:22 p.m. ET.

Fellow concert-goers in attendance at the Dr. John blues show told the Journal News that staff paged the Kellys to the box office during intermission.

"This is a parent's worst nightmare," Heather Flournoy, a blogger who once wrote a post about the Kelly family's eco-friendly home, told the Post.  "Heartbreaking and close to home."

Katonah is a hamlet of Bedford. It's about 35 miles north of midtown Manhattan.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
