Spokane Police: Teen Joyride Ends In Crash; Suspects Remain At Large

SPOKANE, Wash. - Police say a suspected joy ride by a couple teenagers ended with a water truck nearly knocking over a light pole and knocking out power to a northeast central neighborhood.

It happened just before 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Regal and Marshall, which is just south of the Spokane River at Greene Street. A neighbor talked to KHQ and told us he was awakened from a dead sleep by his dog barking.

He went outside to let his dog out and saw a water truck crashed into a light pole and the pole was bent at about a 45 degree angle. That neighbor immediately called 911. He says that he walked into the street to further investigate and as he got into the street, he saw a group of teens jumping into a green SUV and quickly driving from the scene.

Police believe that the teens stole the truck from a construction site that's across the street from where the crash took place. They think the teens lost control of the truck and crashed into the pole, then took off before authorities could arrive on scene.

No one was injured, but at the height of the power outage, 51 Avista customers were without power.

If you have any information about this incident, you're being asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
