Chattaroy Teen Dies After Apparent Accidental Shooting

SPOKANE, Wash. - Following an apparent accidental shooting on Saturday night, Tom Grauberger, 19, died Tuesday afternoon. Grauberger was declared brain dead Saturday night after the shooting, and according to authorities, died Tuesday afternoon.

Saturday night police were called to a home on Madison Road in Elk by a 24-year-old man who reported that he had accidentally shot his friend. The man told authorities that he had been at a barbecue earlier in the day and had shown his pistol to a couple during the meal. He had removed the cylinder pin and did not replace it before reholstering his revolver.

Later, he and Grauberger began playing a game of pool in a shop at the shooter's home. While the victim was making a series of pool shots, the shooter began attempting to reassemble the pistol by forcing the cylinder rod into the cocked firearm. The gun fired and the bullet hit Grauberger in the head.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
