Car Bursts Into Flames Outside Airway Heights Apartment Complex

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - Fire investigators are working to determine what caused one car to burst into flames outside an apartment complex in Airway Heights. The fire spread from that first car to the second car and destroyed both.

Fire crews said calls reporting the vehicle fire, at 1522 S. Lawson, first started coming in at 4:28 Monday morning. Tenants of the apartment complex reported hearing the sound of several explosions and looked out their window to see the car fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews say they now believe the explosions that tenants heard were tires exploding and windows blowing out—they don't believe there was actually an explosion.

At this point, investigators aren't calling the fire suspicious, and say it appears to have started in the passenger compartment of one of the vehicles. There is no word on how the fire actually started, but crews say it's likely accidental. There were no injuries.
