Sheriff Says Woman Accused Of Killing Toddlers Wanted To Be Free Of Them
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - According to a South Carolina sheriff, a woman who's now accused of killing her two toddlers believed that if they weren't around anymore, she could "be free."
Shaquan Duley initially said her children drowned when her car went into a river after an accident. Authorities say she has now confessed to suffocating them and then faking the accident.
Sheriff Larry Williams says the woman claimed to be distraught over money troubles.
He says she also told investigators that she killed the two boys after arguing with her own mother about how she was raising them.
Officials say they've been unable to locate the children's father, who did not live with the family. Duley has another child, a 5-year-old girl, who is now with the grandmother.
