AP WIRES: Informant Gets Plea Deal In Murder-For-Hire Case

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) - The 49-year-old alleged informant in a northern Idaho murder-for-hire drama has signed a plea deal in the weapons and explosives case pending against him.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports Larry Fairfax and federal prosecutors agreed he would plead guilty to one count of possession of an unregistered firearm and one count of making a firearm in violation of the National Firearms Act. Both carry 10-year sentences.

Fairfax is accused of making bombs that northern Idaho lawyer Edgar Steele allegedly hoped would kill Steele's wife and mother-in-law.

Fairfax, a resident of Sagle, became an informant in the case and wore a hidden recording device in meetings with Steele, who gained attention a decade ago as a lawyer for the Aryan Nations group.

Steele has pleaded not guilty to hiring Fairfax as a hit man; he remains behind bars.
