Horseplay Leads To Pedestrian Collision In Spokane Valley

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: A 14-year-old Spokane Valley boy suffered apparent minor injuries Wednesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while engaged in horseplay with his brother and another friend.

Officers were called to the 10400 block of East Broadway about 6:50 p.m. when a witness reported the boy had been struck and was prone in the street.

The driver involved, 20-year-old David D. Massett, told them he was westbound on Broadway when the teen suddenly ran into his path from the sidewalk.  He said he veered left and braked, but could not avoid striking the teen. 

Massett's passenger and another motorist confirmed his account of the accident.  Also, the injured teen's brother told officers that he and the friend were chasing victim who had taken a cell phone from one of them.  He stated his brother ran into the street without looking.

The injured teen was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  No charges were expected against Massett.
