Restaurant To Parents: No Screaming Kids; Read What People Are Writing On Our FB Wall

MSNBC.COM - On an airplane, in a movie theater or in a restaurant, the shrill sound of a childish voice raised in distress can resemble nails across a blackboard — especially when it's not your child. Now one North Carolina eatery has drawn a line in the sand by posting signs prohibiting children's uproar.

"Screaming Children Will NOT Be Tolerated!" say placards posted at the Olde Salty restaurant in Carolina Beach. N.C. And while the signs may seem to be telling some parents their patronage is unwelcome, restaurant owner Brenda Armes said it's actually been a business boon.

The Olde Salty restaurant in North Carolina has stirred passions with this message to patrons who are parents.

"It has been a good thing for us," Armes told NBC affiliate WECT. "It has brought in more customers than it has ever kept away."

Indeed, a first-time diner at the Olde Salty told WECT he embraced the signage. "It's not very enjoyable when you hear a bunch of kids screaming," Gary Gibson said. "It's nice to see a sign like that up." CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL STORY

Tiffany Stanowski: I think this is good cuz I can't stand screaming/whining brats. Its about time someone took into consideration that not ALL people wanna hear your child acting up.

Mia Simpson: I support the idea. I hate it when irresponsible parents allow their children to run around a restaurant as though they were at home. It drives me nuts. Teach your children some respect and manners. Really, it is NOT difficult. I was s...uccessful with both of my daughters and they NEVER were able to run around screaming. In fact, eating out was a learning tool I used in teaching them manners. I told them ahead of time what was expected and if they broke the rules, then we would leave. I am happy to say that we never left.

Jess Ponikvar: When I used to wait tables I had a technique that worked really well. I would go to where the parents couldn't see me but the kid could. I would wave a red napkin to get their attention.... Then I would take a knife from the kitchen, ...poi...nt at them and give them the "SHHH" signal, then I would point at them again and hold the knife by my throat and make a slow slicing motion.... In order for this technique to be effective you NEED to open your eyes really wide.... That usually makes those kids shut their noise-holes for the rest of dinner....

Stephanie Hiatt Belnap: It's all about ettiquete. And some parents just don't have it, therefore the kids don't learn it. Shameful. I have a well behaved 3 yr old. He's learned that we don't tolerate bad behaivor. I have put him in time out right in the middle of... a store before for not listening & throwing a fit. He doesn't like standing against a wall for 3 minutes. Or at the mall @ the play ctr, when he starts acting out, I make him sit in time out & watch the other kids play. That is torture for him, But he has learned to behave very quickly. It's about consitancy & NOT backing down.

Michele Boisoneau: I agree with the restraunt!! However the sign could be worded a lil different. Like.... as a courtesy to all customers, ANY disruptive behavior will be grounds for being asked to leave the premises!!!!

Terri: YOU ALL NEED ETIQUETTE AND STOP PICKING POOR LITTLE KIDS> KIDS ARE KIDS. NOW SHUT UP ABOUT ALL THIS

Laura Jane McGinnis-Turnbull: @ Terri, when I was a kid, if we acted up WE GOT BACKHANDED RIGHT THEN AND THERE, TO HELL WITH WHO WAS WATCHING and then were not allowed to go anymore. AND THERE ARE PARENTS WHO NEED TO GET SMACKED AS WELL BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY, they were not ...diciplined properly as a child..to allow your child to disrupt other patrons/ shoppers is rude and disrespectful not only to all the others in the estsablishment, but to themselves as well and they are providing thier children with a grave disservice by not teaching them to respect themselves and others,. an undiciplined screaming kid in public is a direct result and example of the kind of parents they have.

Sonja Bakonyi: It seems the majority of parents are far more concerned over not hurting their child's feelings vs teaching them proper manors. When I was a kid, one look from my dad put me in my place otherwise it was a trip to the car. And there are no witnesses in the car ;) So perhaps if more people were proactive with this subject, parents would remember that they are the adult and need to run the show, not their child.
