Baby Shot & Killed In Walla Walla; Mother Wounded

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - A one and a half year old baby was accidentally shot and killed in Walla Walla Monday. Here's the official press release from the Walla Walla County Sheriff's office.

On 09-13-10 at around 4:43 PM the Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office was called to investigate a firearm related death that occurred on Electric Ave. in Walla Walla County. The victim is Dmitriy Khomenko of Walla Walla, the 1.5 year old son of Pavel and Yelena Khomenko.

The incident occurred in a shed where the couple's 5 year old son found the .22 rifle and picked it up. The weapon discharged and struck the 1 year old and the mother. When the family discovered that Dmitriy had been struck they rushed him to Providence Saint Mary Medical Center in their own vehicle. Dmitriy was pronounced dead a short time later. The mother was treated for a superficial wound to her jaw.

At this time the investigation is continuing however it is believed to be an accidental shooting.

    POST FALLS, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says a 40-year-old Post Falls man is in critical condition after falling off his inner tube on the Spokane River Saturday evening.  Deputies responded to the Corbin Park area for a report of a possible drowning at around 6:00 p.m. Witnesses say the man had fallen off his inner tube and not resurfaced.

    LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. - Update: Washington State Patrol has identified those involved in a four-vehicle crash on I-90 Saturday afternoon. Troopers say a driver was following too close and rear-ended one car, which caused a chain reaction collision. One driver was injured and taken to Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane, but his injuries were not considered life threatening.
