Chelan County Offering Reward To Capture Killer

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: On 11-01-09 at approximately 0150 hrs, a homicide occurred at the La Barisa Mexican Restaurant in Chelan, Washington. The suspect, Javier Vargas-Valdovinos was an employee, cook, at the restaurant.

The victim, a customer, became involved in an argument with the suspect, and a shoving match ensued. The suspect produced a silver-colored revolver from the small of his back and shot the victim, who died at the scene.

A warrant for 2nd Degree Murder has been issued and entered into NCIC. Suspect reportedly has relatives in Brewster and Bridgeport, WA, and Paramount, Willows, Los Angeles, and Compton, CA; no further information on names or addresses at this time. Weapon has NOT been recovered; it is believed to be a large caliber revolver.

    KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho - Panhandle Health District (PHD) and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have issued a health advisory for Fernan Lake. PHD is urging the public to use caution when recreating in or near the water. Water quality monitoring confirmed the presence of cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae. Blue-green algal blooms have the potential to produce dangerous toxins in areas of the lake.

Wednesday, both the prosecutors and the defense were hoping to begin opening arguments, but they are still tied up in motions that have delayed the start. The jury was selected in the case for Dennis Magner, but they were asked to leave while both sides continue their motions.
