Man Kills Self After Moses Lake Traffic Stop

MOSES LAKE, Wash. (AP) - Police are trying to determine why a man killed himself during a traffic stop in Moses Lake.

Capt. Dave Ruffin says an officer pulled over a car for an equipment violation Monday afternoon, but before the officer approached the driver pulled out a handgun and shot himself.

The Tri-City Herald reports he was taken to a local hospital and later flown to a hospital in Spokane where he died.

Ruffin identified the man as David Vanderwood, but police don't know where he's from. He was driving a car with an Idaho license.
