TRAFFIC ALERT: 2 Major Spokane Intersections Closed Today

SPOKANE, Wash. - If your commute takes you into downtown Spokane today you may want to stay away from Second Avenue at the Maple and Walnut Street intersections. The intersections will be closed until later on this afternoon and are expected to open again for the evening commute.

Traffic will be detoured to Washington, Browne and Division Streets. Officer Teresa Fuller with the Spokane Police Department advises motorists to plan ahead and stay off back roads that aren't equipped to handle a large amount of traffic, specifically in the Browne's Addition neighborhood with narrow streets and cars parked alongside the road.

If you're traveling Southbound across the Maple Street bridge and Northbound on Walnut Street, be ready for intermittent lane closures or take an alternate route. The roads will be closed throughout the day to smooth and lay a layer of base pavement. The $2.1 million project is funded by the 10 year street bond and City of Spokane Water and Wastewater Departments. The Project is set to be completed in November.
