DEVELOPING STORY: North Idaho Man Accused of Breaking 2-Year-Old Boy's Leg

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -  A north Idaho man is facing two counts of Cruelty to Children after he and he his fiancee took their 2-year-old son to Kootenai Medical Center last Saturday for a broken leg. The father is identified as Michael R. Edinger.

Police reports say Edinger and Mullin originally blamed the injury on the boy's clumsiness and falling down the stairs. Edinger later admitted to police that he lost his temper while changing the child's diaper, and forcefully grabbed his leg, twisted it , slammed it on the floor, ultimately snapping it.

Nurses told police that the boy also has broken bones that appeared to have happened several months earlier and were never treated.

Initial X-rays of the child showed a spiral fracture to his left femur. The nurses informed the Department of Health and Welfare of the injuries because this type of fracture isn't due to a typical accident. A doctor confirmed with police that a spiral fracture of the femur requires a lot of force to break, and not consistent with falling down stairs or normal 'kid play'.

Deputies took Edinger into custody while at Kootenai Medical Center. He remains in the Kootenai County Jail on $100,000 bond, and will appear in court again next week.

Becky Hepting he looks mean ...YIKES!

Shari Pratt What is it with these men hurting children?

Brit Lee Yount i don't understand why people have to be so mean

Kimberly Anderson He might look mean, but if he is abusing a baby he is a BIG Whimp.

Janessa Kaye Holm someone should do it to him and see how he likes being tortured with pain

Sonja Bakonyi Sick POS. People need to pass parenting 101 before they are allowed to reproduce.

Travis McCrea Oh not this debate again... People who are accused should not be treated as guilty. I don't agree with KHQs decision to put his picture up for everyone to see, until he is actually convicted of a crime.

Annie Speer-Lawton It makes them feel strong and empowered. These same men are also rapists and murderers. They feel inadequate in day to day life so they need to do these things to feel adequate.

Paulette Oots-Robbins Another example of a so called man thinking he is macho by hurting little children...Where is his fiance ?? She should be in jail with him because of the fact she lied and took his side over the poor innocent child....Why did the mother not protect her child ? She is as guilty as he is..

Lisa Parrish ‎@Travis...the SOB admitted to it. Not only does the child have a broken leg now but according to the article he has had broken bones prior to this and they were never treated. He admitted to it and there should be some sort of law that he isn't allowed around any child period, just like sex offenders.

Lea Huntsman OMG I would like to know who to watch out for!! You know this just pisses me off so badly. I am a mother of two wonderful kids. They do get crazy, & they do jump on my nerves, but that is ABSOLUTELY NOT A REASON (WELL THERE ISN'T A REASON) TO EVER LAY YOUR GRUBBY ABUSIVE HANDS ON AN INNOCENT CHILD, OR PERSON IN GENERAL.

Sonja Bakonyi How to stop the vicious cycle; stop giving these monsters such an easy life in prison. A bullet is quicker, cheaper, and more efficient. They did not give their victims a chance at life so I think being in prison ALIVE is far too easy of a sentence. Perhaps if we had a more stricter judicial system, these sort of things wouldn't be happening as often.

William Covington We need to start holding the mothers accountable(too) for the actions of their acquaintances. If we did this, maybe they will choose their next boyfriend more carefully. Background checks are cheap compared to the consequences.
