Man Accused Of Beating Girlfriend With Scarecrow

MISSOULA, Mont. - A 56-year-old Huson man accused of beating his girlfriend with a Halloween scarecrow because her blankets took up too much room on the couple's bed has been charged with partner assault.

Prosecutors say Joseph D. Bechen, who was charged with the misdemeanor Friday, began screaming at his girlfriend of seven years and told her to leave the home because he was angry about the blankets. Court records say she started to leave but stopped outside to retrieve some Halloween scarecrows she had bought earlier.

Bechen is accused of knocking her down and hitting her repeatedly on the head, shoulders and ribs with the bamboo scarecrow poles. Prosecutors say the alleged attack left the woman with scrapes and bruises on her face and the beginnings of bruises on her right leg.

The Missoulian reports that Bechen was released on his own recognizance and can't have any contact with the woman.

What's the first thing you would do if you had a pet translator and you could understand your dog or cat? Recent advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning suggest the dream of communicating with your pets could become a reality.
