Driver Dead After Truck Goes Airborne Off Maple

SPOKANE, Wash. - A 24-year-old man is dead after launching his Chevy pickup truck off of Maple Street near the "S" curves near Dalton, just after 2 a.m..  The truck launched off the guardrail, landed on and crashed into several parked vehicles.  The pickup also struck a house and garage causing substantial damage to the house.  After hitting the parked cars and house, the truck then slammed into and through a retaining wall and into another parked car.

At some point the driver of the truck, Tyler E. Menghini was ejected from his vehicle.  Police say he was not wearing his seatbelt.  Manghini's passenger, a 22-year-old man, was wearing his seatbelt and remained in the truck.  He was extricated from the truck by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  The passenger is listed in serious but stable condition in the ICU.

Spokane Police Collision Investigators were called to the scene.  Police say alcohol and speed are being investigated as factors in the crash; but they won't know for sure until toxicology results come back.  Northbound Maple was closed for approximately five hours.
