UPDATE: Goat That Gored Hiker In Known As Aggressive
PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) - Olympic National Park officials say the mountain goat that fatally gored a 63-year-old hiker over the weekend has shown aggressive behavior in the past.
Park spokesman Barb Maynes says park rangers have been tracking the ram and several others for the past several years. She says the incident is a tragedy and highly unusual.
Sixty-three-old Robert Boardman died Saturday after he was gored by the mountain goat while hiking on a trail in the park near Port Angeles, about 85 miles west of Seattle.
Maynes says the attack is believed to be the first incident of serious injury to a human by wildlife. About 300 mountain goats roam the park.
