UPDATE: Post Falls Couple Believed To Be Case Of Murder/Suicide

POST FALLS, Idaho - The Post Falls Police Department says they are investigating the discovery of two bodies in a Post Falls rental house as a murder/suicide.

On Thursday afternoon officers responded to a 911 call at 509 E. 11th Ave. in Post Falls by the landlord of the house who was there as part of an eviction process and stated that he believed the renters were deceased inside the home.

When officers arrived they found 54-year-old Jeffery A. Hayes and 38-year-old Christina Mandriguez dead from gunshot wounds to the head. A handgun was found in the area of both bodies and based upon other evidence at the scene, it is believed that this is a case of murder/suicide.

Post Falls Police are continuing their investigation.

Post Falls Police are awaiting the autopsy results to determine the identity of the bodies which were removed from the house Thursday night.

Investigators tell KHQ that the landlord of the house showed up Thursday afternoon to evict the two residents. When the landlord showed up, she discovered the two bodies, one of which was blocking the door.

There was a gun found at the scene and police have confirmed that both had gunshot wounds to their heads. The woman was found blocking the front door with a cell phone still in her hands. The man was just a few feet away with the gun between them on the floor.

Police said it appears both have been deceased for quite some time. Neighbors say the last time they saw the couple alive was a week to 10 days ago.

Police have responded to domestic violence calls at the home in the past, once in 2008 and the most recent in March of 2010. Neighbors say the couple has lived in the house for several years.

The investigation is ongoing.
