Exit Polls: Obama Not a Factor in Washington Elections
By PHUONG LE
SEATTLE - Most Washington voters say President Barack Obama was not a factor as they cast ballots in the heated U.S. Senate race between incumbent Democrat Patty Murray and Republican Dino Rossi.
Associated Press preliminary exit poll results and pre-election polls also show two-fifths of voters were most concerned about electing a senator who understands their needs. The rest were split over finding a candidate with the right experience, who wasn't too extreme or who could bring change.
Murray did well among women and older voters, while Rossi found support among men and middle-aged voters.
Voters who said their family's financial situation is better or the same than two years ago went for Murray, while those who felt they were doing worse went for Rossi.
