NEW DETAILS: Candle To Blame For Houston House Apartment Blaze; VIEW The Slideshow

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: The SFD has concluded that the Houston House Apartment complex  fire was ignited accidentally from an unattended candle that was knowingly lit the evening prior to the fire. There is reasonable uncertainty demonstrated by the tenant as to the extinguishment of the candle.

The candle was burning on the top shelf of a four tier, plastic book shelf that was positioned immediately to the east of the bedroom window. The candle was on a shelf that would have been at an elevation above the window sill.  The size of the blanket would allow an excess of blanket material to drape freely to either side of the window.  A loose dog was locked inside the bedroom at the time of the fire. The dog easily could have contributed to the candle flame and blanket coming together, igniting a fire.

The information gathered from the tenant, match the fire pattern evidence observed at the scene as well as early witness accounts of the fire behavior and location in its incipient stages of development.

The fire spread is contributed to a well developed room and contents fire that was self ventilating from the window.  Flame length and fire travel up the combustible siding allowed the fire to enter the attic through the roof soffits above.

KHQ.COM - An average house cat weighs between 7-10 pounds but one Spokane woman has a cat whose size is almost unheard of. Out of the corner of your eye, Ollie might be mistaken for a dog... he's that big! Not your normal house cat, Ollie is a Savannah cat, a hybrid breed that's a cross between a serval cat and a domestic cat. So while it's not surprising that he's bigger than a domestic cat, his size is still shocking.
