Suspicious Person Call Leads To Crash In Downtown Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police were responding to a suspicious person call early Sunday morning when it quickly escalated into a pursuit and ended in a three car crash in downtown Spokane.

Police say a woman was walking to work at about 5:30 am when a man in a white Ford Explorer stopped her and asked her if she needed a ride. After declining the woman continued her walk. Once at work she noticed the same vehicle repeatedly circling the block. The employees called police due to the suspicious behavior. Once police arrived, they attempted to make contact with the vehicle and the driver took off.

The chase lead police through the streets of downtown and ended when the suspect hit another car near the intersection of Sprague and Washington. Three cars total were involved in the wreck and the suspects vehicle came within inches of crashing into Mootsy's Bar. A fire hydrant and a light pole were also destroyed during the wreck. Amazing, no one was injured.

Police arrested 28-year-old Patrick F. Valenzuela  on DUI and Attempting to Elude.

The intersection is expected to reopen around 10:00 am Sunday. The investigation continues.
