Obama Defends Deal With Republicans; WATCH THE ENTIRE PRESS CONF.

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Democratic leaders have not been persuaded by President Barack Obama's arguments in favor of a tax deal he made with Republicans that would extend income tax rates for all Americans, including the wealthy.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that, so far, the response has not been very good.

Another House Democratic leader, Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, says he can't recommend the package to his colleagues.

The leaders met Tuesday afternoon, following a news conference in which Obama called on lawmakers to approve the plan.

Many House Democrats are unhappy that Obama negotiated a package that extends tax rates for the wealthy, and imposes a lower estate tax. Pelosi calls the estate tax provision "a bridge too far."

SPOKANE, Wash. - Feel like you have to keep swatting bugs away when you've been walking outside this week? What you might be calling gnats, are really blue ash aphids. And right now they are more active than ever, because it's mating season. KHQ met a couple who noticed the blue ash aphids right when they started their walk in the park.
