Ex-EMT Admits Posting Corpse Photo On Facebook
NEWYORK.POST.COM - An ex-EMT admitted he took a gruesome cell phone picture of a dead Staten Island woman at a murder scene and posted it on the Internet.
Mark Musarella, 47, pleaded guilty Friday to official misconduct and disorderly conduct for snapping the photo of strangling victim Caroline Wimmer and plastering the image on his Facebook profile.
As part of his plea agreement, Musarella, who was assigned to Richmond University Medical Center, must complete 200 hours community service and is banned from working as an EMT, said DA Daniel Donovan.
In March 2009, Musarella, a retired NYPD detective, responded to a West Brighton apartment where Wimmer, 26 was found killed.
There Calvin Lawson, 30, choked her to death by wrapping a hairdryer cord around her neck. He believed Wimmer had been spreading rumors about him cheating on his girlfriend.
Lawson was convicted of second-degree murder and is serving 25 years to life in jail.
The victim's family has previously said they intend to sue the city and Facebook.
