Spokane City Council Approves 2011 Budget; Waste Water Treatment Rates Increasing
SPOKANE, Wash- On Monday night the Spokane City Council approved the 2011 budget. The biggest issue was how much money should be put in the city's rainy day fund and how much money should be used to cover proposed budget cuts.
The city council eventually moved to restore 1.5 million dollars from its rainy day fund to the street department's budget, primarily for snow removal and de-icing and sanding.
The fire and police departments as well as the libraries made union concessions to save positions.
Other items in the budget include a 16 percent increase for waste water treatment.
