City Lifts Stage 2 Snow Emergency; Warming Centers Open

SPOKANE, Wash. - The City of Spokane has lifted its Stage 2 Snow Emergency this morning, Saturday, Jan. 1.  A full City plow has been completed with the exception of Browne's Addition, which is scheduled for plowing on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 4 and 5.

Street crews completed the full-City plow in less than four days with the help of private contractors, who have been released.  It is possible that crews may have missed blocks here and there.  Citizens should call 625-7733 to report an unplowed section.

Today, the City has returned to regular winter operations.  Sanders are out to improve icy spots.  De-icer generally is not very effective in such cold temperatures.

In Browne's Addition, plowing of north-south streets is planned for Tuesday and of east-west streets on Wednesday.  Plowing will begin at 9 a.m. on both days.  Because streets in Browne's Addition are very narrow, all cars must be moved to accommodate the plows.  Cars that aren't moved will be towed.

Meanwhile, warming centers for the homeless are open again tonight.  The Salvation Army will be open for families and the House of Charity for single men.  Shelter space still is available at Crosswalk for youth and teens and at Hope House for single women.

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
