Gov. Gregoire and VP Biden Comment On Eastern's Victory

Gov. Chris Gregoire tonight issued the following statement on the Eastern Washington University Eagles winning the NCAA Division I-AA National Championship:

"Congratulations to the National Champion Eastern Washington University Eagles! To overcome a 19-point deficit shows heart and determination, which they displayed all season. They truly deserve the championship title. Coach Beau Baldwin and his players have made us proud."

"Those who questioned the inferno turf now have their answer!

"I now look forward to enjoying a feast of chicken, lima beans and Dogshead Root Beer, which Gov Markell of Delaware unwisely bet on the game."

Vice President Joe Biden issued the following statement on the 2011 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game between the University of Delaware and Eastern Washington University:

"I congratulate the University of Delaware and Eastern Washington for their talent, hard work and dedication in achieving the championship game. Although I am disappointed that my alma mater, the University of Delaware Blue Hens, didn't capture the title this year, I am proud of both teams for making it this far. I congratulate the Eastern Washington Eagles on their well-deserved victory."

Earlier tonight, the Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden joined hundreds of University of Delaware fans at a pre-game celebration.
