Washington State Employment Peaked In 2008

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The governor's Office of Financial Management reports state government employment in Washington peaked in 2008 and has been shrinking since then.

The Olympian reports full-time-equivalent position in all agencies and higher education institutions totaled 116,104 in November 2008. That number fell to 110,214 last November. The drop of nearly 6,000 positions was more than 5 percent.

    HAYDEN, Idaho - Old Glory flies triumphantly above Hayden Meadows Elementary. But, every day at the end of school, three keepers of the flag make sure she’s in safe hands. Fifth graders Naylan Tuttle, Jack LeBreck, and Casey Dolan go through the steps necessary to make sure the U.S. flag is properly folded and stored without it ever touching the ground.
