FIRST ON KHQ.COM: Bomb Squad Deploys Robot In Downtown Spokane; FBI Being Called To Investigate

OFFICIAL UPDATED PRESS RELEASE FROM SPD: On Monday Spokane Police Officers were called to a suspicious package at the N/E corner of Main and Washington. The package was found and reported by a City of Spokane worker.

As per protocol in these circumstances officers responded and secured a safety zone. Officers from the Spokane City-County Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) arrived to investigate the package. The package was rendered safe by the EDU. The FBI has joined in the investigation.

Further details will be made available as the investigation progresses.

Roads were closed in an extensive section of Downtown Spokane for several hours to protect citizens and businesses from any possible danger while handling this investigation. The Spokane Police Department wishes to extend its thanks to the citizens and businesses inconvenienced by this investigation.

The crash involved several vehicles and a drunk man taking off on foot, leaving his stolen vehicle behind. It happened around 1 p.m. Officers responded to the area of Main and Lincoln for a crash. As officers started to arrive in the area, they learned that the man who caused the crash was leaving the scene on foot.
