SPD: Woman Arrested After Short Standoff In Northwest Spokane

SPD RELEASE: Early Thursday morning, just after 3:30am, Spokane Police officers responded to a domestic violence call near 2500 West Houston. Officers were told a female inside the home had armed herself with a handgun, was threatening to shoot her husband and was highly intoxicated.

When officers arrived, a male came outside and spoke with them. The male was concerned that his wife, Rhonda R. Thomspon (3/24/61), was extremely agitated and combative. The victim told police his wife threatened to shoot him and had a gun in her hand. Once the victim was safely away from the house, officers spent over an hour attempting to get Thompson to come out of the house.

Finally, Thompson came out of the home, and was taken into police custody. The firearm was recovered by officers inside her bedroom.

Thompson was booked into Spokane County Jail for Felony Harassment Domestic Violence.

Domestic violence calls for service are consistently dangerous and unpredictable.  Most parties are emotionally involved and require the patience of responding officers to diffuse the situations.  Fortunately, in this morning's incident, both the involved parties and the officers safely walked away from a potentially life threatening situation.
