JOB ALERT: Riverfront Park To Host Job Fair

OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE: The 19th Annual City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Department Job Fair is scheduled to take place Sunday, February 13, 2011 in the Riverfront Park IMAX Theater in the main pavilion area from Noon – 4:00 pm.

Hosted by Riverfront Park, the Job Fair provides information on 200+ spring and summer positions at Riverfront Park, Merkel Sports Complex, Park Operations  and the City's Aquatic Centers.

Positions at Riverfront Park include; Attraction Attendants for the Carrousel, SkyRide, Tour Train, and Pavilion Rides, Concession and Ticket Cashiers, Food Service Cooks, Storeroom Attendants, IMAX Theater Projectionist, Facilities and Grounds Maintenance, Security Officers, Electro-Mechanical Technicians, Guest Service Representatives, Manito Park Bench Café Staff and leads in all areas.

Riverfront Park staff will be on hand to answer employment questions and distribute applications for these seasonal positions.  All applicants must be age 16 or older by March 6th.  Some positions require applicants to be 18 or older to apply.  Seniors, teachers, students and those interested in working part-time flexible schedules are encouraged to apply.

Riverfront park seasonal positions begin mid-March.  During the spring months, most employees work 10-15 hours per week and during the summer months 30-40 hours per week.  Wages start at $8.75 per hour.

The Merkel Sports Complex & Aquatic Centers will also be looking to fill positions and will have representatives on hand with information and applications.  Positions available include; Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Cashiers, Food Service/Concessions, and Facilities Maintenance.  Lifeguard applicants need only be 15 years old at time of application and be prepared to attend a training class during the spring. 

Those planning to attend the Job Fair are encouraged to go on-line at www.spokaneriverfrontpark.com or www.spokaneparks.org and bring a completed application with them to the job fair.  Those unable to attend the job fair are encouraged to return a completed application to Guest Services in the Riverfront Park pavilion lobby, 9AM-4PM 7 days a week. All hiring will be done from the applications on file; resumes should only be submitted with a completed application.

Applications will also be available at the Job Fair for those without computer access.

Jamal Jackson, 49, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Anthony Mele. He was being held in Ventura County jail on a $1.5 million bail.
