Armed Robbery In Newport; Suspect On The Loose

KHQ.COM - On Friday February 4, 2011 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Westside Pizza located at 325 S. Washington Avenue in Newport, Washington reported being robbed at gunpoint by a male suspect wearing dark clothing with a hood and scarf over his face.

Employees reported the restaurant was empty at the time of the robbery. Employees stated that the suspect walked into the restaurant, displayed a handgun and demanded money. After being given money the suspect left the store and was last seen walking south on Washington Avenue. 

Deputies responded immediately to the area, with the first deputy arriving within 30 seconds of being notified of the robbery. The U.S. Border Patrol was also called in to assist with a tracking dog, netting negative results.

Deputies processed the scene and recovered evidence. This case is a top priority for the Sheriff's Office. Deputies have been following up on leads all weekend as this case remains active at this time.

He's being held on $1.2 million bail.
