Driver Cited In Patrol Car Crash On Indian Trail Rd.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: No one was injured Thursday morning when a woman driving a 2009 Toyota Highlander pulled into the path of a sheriff's patrol car traveling southbound on Indian Trail Road just north of Francis.
Deputy Tom Warner was driving to work in his plain-marked patrol car about 6 a.m. when 39-year-old Ellen Schaeffer pulled out from the Yoke's Grocery parking lot.
Warner said he recognized that the SUV wasn't going to stop and moved as far left as he dared. Still, the right rear corner of the patrol car struck the left front of the Highlander.
Damage to the 2008 Crown Victoria was estimated at about $1,400. The Toyota suffered greater damage, but no monetary estimate was available.
Both sheriff's deputies and Spokane Police officers responded to assist in traffic control and the collision investigation.
Schaeffer was later cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way, a $175 civil infraction.
