Run Bloomsday, Win an iPad…Maybe

SPOKANE, Wash. – In an homage to the 35th anniversary of the Bloomsday run, race organizers plan to give away iPad computers to certain finishers of the 12k run.

Runners who finish 35th, 350th, 3,500th or 35,000th will win an iPad 2 from Strong Solutions and the Lilac Bloomsday Association.

"We just decided what is the coolest thing that people really would like to get this year?" asked Carol Hunter with the Bloomsday Association.

Hunter estimates the 35th finisher will finish with a time of about 35 minutes and 41 seconds.  The 350th finisher will finish with a time of about 48 minutes.  The 3,500th finisher will finish with a time of about 1 hour and 2 minutes.  And the 35,000th finisher will finish with a time of about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

All finishers, of course, will receive a commemorative t-shirt whose design remains guarded until race day.

Organizers also plan to recognize the 35th anniversary by placing 35 bands on the race route (usually there are about 26).

"Music is a great motivator," said Hunter.

Organizers estimate 57,000 people will run Bloomsday this year.
