Animal Vaccines Spoiled At Kootenai Humane Society

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Kootenai Humane Society is asking for the public's help in replacing some very expensive cat and dog vaccines.

A couple weeks ago a refrigerator storing the vaccines was accidentally left open over the weekend, spoiling all the vaccines inside.

"Either the seal on the refrigerator just broke," said Rondi Renaldo, Executive Director, Kootenai Humane Society. "Or it's possible somebody went in there to get a vaccine, and you know how when you make a sandwich and you try to close the door it doesn't close all the way."

This is a big hit for Kootenai Humane Society because some of these vaccines are very expensive. Renaldo says several thousand dollars worth of vaccines were lost and need to be replaced immediately.

"They are a must. I don't have a choice. These animals can't be here if they're not vaccinated, and we can't send them out into the public if they aren't vaccinated," said Renaldo.

Renaldo now has to figure out how to cut costs to help pay for these lost vaccines.

"What do we have to have right now, what's a must? What else do you cut, what else do you go through, how do you make some money to replace these," said Renaldo.

If you are interested in donating, contact the Kootenai Humane Society.
