Mt. Spokane's Sammie Pedersen Is May's Student Athlete of the Month

Sammie Pedersen, a two-sport wonder and genius in the classroom is the Cricket Student Athlete of the Month of the month of May.

Pedersen is a competitor with an old-fashioned "get it done" attitude. Her basketball coach, Melissa Allen says she's a positive person, and someone who always performs to the best of her ability – something that rubs off on everyone around her.

"What makes Sammie stand out is her incredible work ethic and the way she plays the game," said Melissa Allen. "She plays with an enormous amount of heart."

In the spring, Pedersen's attention switches from basketball to track and field where her mother happens to be her coach.

"She's a great motivator and very enthusiastic about all the events," said her mother, Annette Helling. "She cheers everyone on."
