Labor Secretary To Speak At Bridgeport High

BRIDGEPORT, Wash. – Days after the President of the United States announced he would speak at a Memphis high school instead of one in Bridgeport, administrators in central Washington announced Labor secretary Hilda Solis will speak at their school instead.

Secretary Solis will speak at a graduation ceremony on June 1 at Bridgeport High School.

Students at Bridgeport created a video trying to convince the President to speak at their school where 100 percent of seniors have been accepted to college. Many of the student are the first in their families to graduate from high school and many live below poverty level, according to the district.

Bridgeport was one of three finalists to win the contest. The President reportedly picked the winner, choosing a school in Memphis where graduation rates have risen over the last few years.

Washington Governor Chris Gregoire is also scheduled to speak. Administrators said Congressman Jay Inslee is also trying to attend the ceremony.

37 seniors will graduate at the ceremony.
